In the framework of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032 and on the occasion of the World Day of Romani Language, the Knowledge and Learning Commons (KLC), in collaboration with the Division of Conference Management (DCM), we organized an online workshop to raise awareness on Romani language heritage and the history it preserves.
Check out our recorded session, as it was intended for UN staff and external audiences who were interested in developing a greater understanding of the language of Roma community, as a way to foster linguistic diversity and inclusion of marginalized languages and cultures.
The learning objectives included exploring:
The interlinkages between Romani language and its history
The Romani perceptions of life through “Pachiv”, Roma customary law
The importance of marginalized languages in today’s public discourse
