Conversations with Academia: Big Data for Big Challenges: The Swiss Data Cube for Environmental Monitoring

Discover our past event: The University of Geneva (UNIGE) and the United Nations Office at Geneva extended an invitation to the 6th session of the Conversations with Academia series. The session aimed to address the rapid changes in our environment and the rise of big data, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions to support policy frameworks and actions for sustainable development. In response to these challenges, the University of Zurich and the University of Geneva collaborated with UNEP/GRID — Geneva and the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow, and Landscape Research (WSL) to harness the potential of Big Data for environmental monitoring using a groundbreaking technology known as the Swiss Data Cube (SDC). The SDC, a novel technology, has revolutionized the interaction with complex data from various sources, including satellite imagery. This event was co-created in collaboration with the Knowledge & Learning Commons at UN Geneva.
