Seeing What’s Next

Seeing What’s Next

Explore our past Commons event that delved into the profound impact of current technological and social trends, foreseeing their transformative effects over the next three decades. In this insightful session led by Professor Howard Yu, participants examined the impending changes that will shape our lives, ranging from the integration of virtual reality in homes and the rise of the on-demand economy to the pervasive presence of artificial intelligence in both professional and personal spheres. These developments were dissected as outcomes of long-term, accelerating forces at play.

Professor Yu, renowned author of the book "Leap: How to Thrive in a World Where Everything Can Be Copied," guided attendees through an exploration of the inevitable shifts in various aspects of our lives. The discussion encompassed the imminent transformations in work, interactions, learning, and communication, all driven by these overarching forces. The session went further to contemplate the necessary adaptations for international organizations, such as the United Nations, urging them to lead differently across domains like digital services, new operating models, talent acquisition, and innovative approaches.

Hosted at the Knowledge & Learning Commons in collaboration with Learning Services at the UN International Computing Centre, this event provided a unique opportunity for participants to learn and engage in discussions about the evolving landscape of our future.
